I am terribly sad for what you went through. I hope you get the senior apartment very soon. ❤️

Your story hurts my heart. It's not only about being let down by your government, but also your community. And it's not just your community, but your loved ones, family members, and peers. What kind of world have we built where a person in need, reaching out for help, can be rejected so many times over?

The experience was beyond belief....esp friends in Iowa that I've known since I went there for college when I was 17, visited every summer for years, and one woman I traveled to Europe with in 1971 for the entire summer.

I had sent her baby grandson 2 or 3 boxes filled with my kiddie book collection (some first editions!). Her daughter never even thanked me, so I asked for the shipping fees back. The woman sent me a check without a single word. Needless to say that friendship died right then.

I still don't get it, but have tried to move on. (We were college roommates senior year and for a year after graduating).

But it seems that after covid everyone went nuts.

I'm glad to be back in NY where the senior benefits are amazing: free meals 5 days a week, free transport to doctors, a woman who shops for us and does errands, too, and a handyman who came to the room I'm renting and put together a big fan and fixed the toilet seat just this afternoon.

Best thing yet, my Iowa attorney called me today and I'm getting my valuable things back from Fed Ex this Thursday. The creep who first threw me out has had them since 8/24 when I sent them thinking I would go back to where I had grown up. (he was son of my parent's best friends. I babysat him when a kid!).

Thank you for your kind thoughts and words, Jocelyn. xxoo
